Dread-headed DJ Sultan will take control of Chi on October 23, so here’s a guide to his life. But which of these is fact, and which is… anti-fact?
a) In his years as a DJ, Sultan has played alongside the likes of Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, Nick Warren and Lee Burridge.
b) One of Sultan’s productions, ‘Moments’ (made with Tone Depth), made an appearance on Tiësto’s In Search Of Sunrise 4.
c) Like the mighty pine tree, Sultan produces a resin that can be used in the formulation of turpentine. Unlike the mighty pine tree, he is deciduous.
d) Sultan’s first-ever production, ‘Primal Instinct’, was signed immediately to Chug Records; he has subsequently produced tracks for other labels, including Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi and John Digweed’s Bedrock Breaks.
e) After accidentally slaying a dragon with his Range Rover, Sultan was crowned rightwise King Of Sweden in 1995, giving him the right to rule the country with an iron fist. However, he turned it down because the crown made his face look fat.
f) A talented musician as well as a DJ and producer, Sultan plays guitar on tour with singer Nadia Ali of iiO. He has also co-written and co-produced songs for her latest album with friend and musical partner Ned Shepard.
g) A master forger and gentleman thief, Sultan once replicated first-edition manuscripts of Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet, then used these forgeries to replace the originals kept in The British Museum. The deception was revealed when it was noted that Romeo’s dying words were, ‘O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick/ Thus with a kiss I die.’ And not, in fact, ‘I done a poo.’
