Paul van Dyk is a divisive man. To many he’s one of the greatest decksmiths that has ever lived. In the industry he’s been critically fêted with dozens of awards, holding a spot in DJ Mag’s influential top 10 for a record 13 years between 1998 and 2010. To fans, his debut single ‘For An Angel’ remains one of the best-known dance tunes of all times. Yet many find his music clinical and detached; the work of a technical mastermind lacking warmth and humanity. The man himself describes it not as ‘trance’, or anything else, but simply ‘progressive electronic music’.
He’s no stranger to Dubai – with eight previous appearances for Peppermint alone – but expect a fresh set heavy with fresh material from his first new release in half a decade, this year’s ambitious sixth LP Evolution.
