The big news this week comes from our fair capital, where Creamfields Abu Dhabi has pulled out the cheque book to secure two of the biggest DJs on the planet: chart-mashing pin-up David Guetta (DJ Mag’s number one for 2011), who returns after his 2010 headline slot, and Armin van Buuren (the same esteemed publication’s top dog between 2007 and 2010). However, after last year’s two-dayer suffered from patchy attendance, the Friday December 7 event has been slimmed down to a one-day, eight-hour dance blitz, complete with giant laser robots, stilt walkers, fun rides and more.
On a rather less glamorous note, the esteemed Maxx Music Bar & Grill at the Citymax Al Barsha has launched a new musician jam night every Friday – which it’s publicising by sending quaint branded mugs to journalists. Cheers guys.
We’re thrilled to tell you that scruffy, scuzzy rockers The Black Lips are coming to Dubai later this month. The Atlanta quartet will be stopping off at The Music Room on Thursday September 27 as part of a Middle Eastern tour alongside quirky Lebanese indie boys Lazy Lung.
In less positive news, the Habtoor Beach Resort & Spa’s popular XL Beach Club is shut for a few weeks while it benefits from a new lick of paint, although there’s talk that UK BBC Radio 1 legend Judge Jules will be playing the relaunch in October.
In case you missed it, Kylie Minogue and Nickelback are to play this year’s Abu Dhabi F1 gigs on Friday November 2 and Saturday 3 respectively. We were waiting as we went to press to see who would be playing on the Sunday. Guesses on a postcard – or a tweet.
