Juicy rumours and new openings in Dubai nightlife scene
Bom dia! There’s a new Latino night in town! Monthly happening Onda! at Casa Latina promises everything from Brazilian funk to Colombian cumbias and Panamanian reggae to Puerto Rican mambos. If it sounds a bit ambitious, we can pledge you’re in the safe hands of talented producer/DJ Adriano K, who earlier this year released a cool double album of Latino folk songs and house remixes, A L.A.S. A member of the Deep Crates Cartel, the night will take place at the team’s regular home, Casa Latina, on the first Friday of every month, with the first this week on October 5.
On the same day we’re looking forward to a fun-lovin’ boat party from the Sunstroke team who, aftera string of nights onshore at Barsha’s new Club Silk, will be casting off for their first nautical adventure of the season (call 050 600 9928 to book).
If you’re female and a fan of nearly-free drinks, you’ll be happy to hear about a new temporary ladies’ night. Taking a leaf out of nearby Left Bank’s infamous Mingle night on Wednesdays, The Palace Downtown Dubai will be celebrating its fifth anniversary by offering ladies five drinks for Dhs5 in bar Fai on every Tuesday in October – so there are still four to go.
The Fridge’s upcoming Concert Series looks to be a cracker. Kicking off at its new home in Alserkal Avenue on Monday October 8 with R&B from Emirati Sain & Friends, we can also look forward to Latin grooves from Eddie Duarte, aching pop from Lisa and Stoyan, rock from Fatiniza and hip-hop from The Narcycist & The Illuminarcy, each playing one a week until November 5.
Elsewhere, we were expecting to see Mr McGettigan’s second venture launching as we went to press, with a branch of the pub opening over three floors at Dubai World Trade Centre.
There’s a new house band at TECOM drinkery 1Up: Stereo Life play every Thursday from 10pm. The pub also now hosts comedy nights, with One Night Stand Up on Wednesday October 10 and Joker’s Wild night on Monday 29.
Finally, we’ve just heard that US R&B star Macy Gray, best known for worldwide smash ‘I Try’, is playing The Irish Village on Thursday December 6. Until next week…
