We’re currently gearing up for this week’s Dubai International Comedy Carnival. With the noble goal of making the ‘UAE a funnier place’, the five-day festival takes place at Dubai Festival City from Tuesday January 22. It follows a good month for organisers Dubomedy after their ‘Fresh Prince of Emirates Hills’ YouTube parody went viral, clocking more than 50,000 hits as we went to press.
A few weeks ago we told you that Dubai celeb DJ Bliss and Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall were spotted filming a blingin’ video in Dubai’s streets – and now the tune they worked on together has officially seen the light. Bliss’ debut single ‘Let it Go’ was aired to the public for the first time at a special edition of 411 Saturdays on Friday January 12, hosted at People by Crystal.
It marks the end of a happy year for the Emirati DJ, who spent the closing days of 2012 tweeting his highlights of the year – which included his work on Dubai One show That’s Entertainment, a return to radio after three years with his show The Real Flava, (every Thursday on Channel 4 at 8pm) – and being named Time Out Dubai’s ‘Best Local DJ’ 2011/12. Will he keep that crown for a second year? You’ll have to wait until our upcoming Nightlife Awards to find out.
Rejoice! After months of rumour, speculation and anticipation, the MusicHall’s official launch date has been set – for next week. After initially sending VIP invites out for a launch bash this week, on Thursday January 17, the Beirut brand now promises to open with an invite-only event a week later, before a public launch on Friday January 25.
We’ve now found out more about Fashion TV’s new nightlife venue. Billed to open in mid-February, Emirates Towers-based Studio F (they style it lower-case, of course) will operate as a lounge restaurant until 11pm, when it will ‘clubify’ and ramp up the volume. The venue will feature an LCD catwalk ramp, 40 projectors, LED walls, and ‘countless’ TV screens that will broadcast live fashion footage from Milan, New York et al. That’s all for now, party people – until next week.
