Local bands, international bands, tribute bands - you want bands? We got 'em
Local bands, international talent and classic tribute bands – the next few weeks see an invasion of rock.
Grab the denim, because there’s a load of rock events on the way. It seems the hotter weather is sending gig-goers off the beaches and into rock bars. The Music Room is hosting a long list of gigs, with a load of local bands lined up for Rock Nation’s Alternative Rock Festival on Friday May 17, the Original’s Festival – Part Two a week later, and yet more at the Metal Asylum Local Rocks festival on Friday June 28. More notable fare comes to the same venues with former Iron Maiden man Blaze Bayley on Friday May 31 and Indian indie act Thermal And A Quarter set for Friday July 5. Meanwhile, there’s international tribute bands Doors Alive, who were forced to pull out of the Classic Rock Festival last month, on Thursday May 30, and ‘the world’s biggest U2 tribute’ LA Vation on Friday June 14.
We’ve heard Horizon Lounge could be re-launching after summer with a new name. The Habtoor Grand nightspot has been quiet of late, cancelling its ladies’ night and turning down the tunes last year in what we were told was a bid to minimise disturbances to residents. However, things are heating up slightly, with a new ladies’ night every Tuesday from 6pm-11pm. What’s more, there’s a refurbishment planned for summer, with a view to possibly launching a new brand and concept. Stay tuned.
Speaking of new concepts, Jumeirah Creekside’s Nomad Lounge has unveiled a new Lebanese themed Kaslik Night. Named after one of the country’s most prestigious nightlife hubs, every Thursday and Friday from 10pm you can hear hits straight from Beirut.
That’s plenty for now party people – get out and play!
