The Killers coming to Dubai and 10 years of GlobalFunk
Sandance turns three with The Killers, a wave of closing parties are confirmed, and GlobalFunk celebrates ten years.
We’re thrilled to hear The Killers are coming to town. The American rockers behind ‘Somebody Told Me’ will headline the Sandance season opener alongside Icelandic indie sextet Of Monsters and Men and Bob Marley’s former backing band The Wailers. Taking place on on Friday October 11, the event also marks the Atlantis festival’s third birthday. Blimey, has it been that long already?
More closing parties to report: Nasimi Beach is wrapping things up early this year with a bumper bill on Friday May 24, hosting both Cadenza’s Mendo and Crosstown Rebels stalwalt Amirali. Then the MustHaveSoul team host their outdoor finale at 360° on Thursday May 30, a day before Audio Tonic close up the upper deck. Blue Marlin Ibiza has put its last night back a week – fear not, it’s still hosting Ibiza legend Luciano on Friday 31, but there’s now going to be at least one more party on Friday June 7, with talk of extending another week if temperatures stay the right side of bearable.
Moving indoors, we’re pleased to see bass-loving local clubbing brand GlobalFunk celebrating ten years in Dubai this week, with renowned Brazilian drum’n’ bass dude DJ Marky spinning at The Music Room on Thursday May 16 (not to be confused with the IV’s resident party man, DJ Marky Mark)…
More summer refurbs: Fresh from their much-hyped visit from a certain Justin Bieber, VIP club Movida is undergoing a facelift over summer, we are told. Stay tuned for more.
Sad news for live music fans: longstanding Dubai cover band Shine have left the Hard Rock Café. They leave a mighty hole to fill, so let’s hope the chain comes up with the goods for its next booking.
