We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene.
The first rumour that we’ve come across will please fans of The Fun Lovin' Criminals. Frank and Fast from the group are set to play DJ sets in the city on November 21. We’ll keep you posted once details have been finalised. A welcome return of the hipster magnet Electric Days has also been announced, with UK DJ Laura Jones headlining on September 13 followed by UK DJ Kate Simko and Lebanese spinner Tala Mortada on September 20 on the terrace.
Any drum and bass fans are also in for a treat as Bristol pioneer and Mercury Music Prize winning artist Roni Size is booked to play The Music Room with Dynamite MC for Globalfunk on September 19. Tickets are set to be priced at Dhs100.
We are also excited by one of our favourite venues in the city’s plans to relaunch in October. The car park in the Media One Hotel, which held two great parties earlier this year, is set to stamp its unique brand of partying with the return of Younique on October 25, and with talk of a UK breakbeat king being linked to the date, we’re there.
Punchline Comedy has also returned to add a little laughter to our lives, with Philadelphia-born standup John Lenahan and Liverpudlian comedian Simon Bligh set to hit the stage at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel on September 19.
With venues, we’ve been told that popular nightspot Boudoir has had a makeover and that TECOM’s Rare Club Dubai has also had a refurb, with Greg Stainer and Natalie Brogan already confirmed for stints on the decks. Enjoy.
