Want to check out festivals across the world? Well lucky you: Time Out takes a look at Hi Fli
There’s nothing much wrong with Dubai’s club scene. From the top 10 DJs to the more underground talent, pretty much everyone who’s anyone comes here sooner or later. But when it comes to dance festivals it’s a completely different matter. Heck, the only one we’ve got – the annual Coma festival that started this year – isn’t even in Dubai at all, but on an island off the coast of Abu Dhabi. All of this means that for most of the year, if you want some festival fun, you’ll have to pack your bags and head off abroad.
But chin up! Hi Fli (www.hifli.me) is a new company designed to take the plight out of flight. Log on to the site and you’ll find yourself with a whole load of festival options, mostly based in Europe. But unlike many sites on the web, it doesn’t just sell tickets. No, this one also packages those tickets with hotels close to the event, to give its users a full holiday package without them having to do more than click through a few forms. And if you don’t like the sound of the packaged hotels, you can always request further accommodation options to customise your holiday. There are also camping tickets available on selected festivals for the full, smelly experience.
Perhaps more importantly the site will also help you sort out airline tickets to get you to and from your chosen event, as well as providing you with an ‘ask the expert’ option – should you have any queries – and the chance to organise packages for groups (because a festival’s only as fun as the people you’re with, after all). The site is also branching out into live concerts, though at the time of writing the only one available one was for Depeche Mode in Serbia – still, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on the site for the future.
At the time of writing, the available events for 2009 were: Koh Phangan Full Moon Party, Thailand (January 10-11, February 10-11, March 10-11); Snowbombing, Austria (March 29-April 4); Time Warp Mannheim, Germany (April 4-5); Depeche Mode Live In Belgrade, Serbia (May 20); Exit Festival, Serbia (July 9-12) and Creamfields, UK (August 29-30).
