We dig up the juicy rumours, new openings and hot events in Dubai’s music and nightlife scene.
It’s been announced that veteran alt rockers the Stone Temple Pilots are to headline next year’s Dubai Jazz Festival in Festival City. The grunge guitar outfit are now fronted by former Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington following the sacking of former singer Scott Weiland in Feburary. The band is the fifth headlining act to be confirmed following Olly Murs, The Wanted, Jamie Cullum and Colbie Caillat on the eclectic bill. The Pilots will appear on February 13.
Live gig champion The Music Room is turning seven years old on November 20, which is positively ancient by Dubai nightlife standards. The venue, which is one of the best places to catch original bands and top DJs, has been consistently serving the city’s alternative music scene so here at Time Out we hope it manages another seven years.
Reggae fans will be pleased to hear that the Deep Crates Cartel are bringing Earl Gateshead over to showcase his music taste next month. The Trojan Records legend has been DJing since 1979 and is sure to throw on a couple of classic tracks from the golden era of Jamaican music. Gateshead will be appearing at Casa Latina on Friday December 6.
Fun Lovin’ Criminals fans are in for a treat this month as Frank and Fast from the band are set to share their musical favourites on the decks at Radisson Blu Media City on November 21.
Finally, Break DJ Lobito will be hosting a B Boy competition on November 22 in Dubai Festival City. While final details are still to be announced, expect special guests and a solid DJ line-up – stay tuned to our website for further details as they come.
