Space Ibiza celebrates its 25th anniversary at Nasimi Beach
World-renowned club Space Ibiza celebrates its 25th anniversary at Nasimi Beach at Atlantis The Palm on Friday November 14. Chanelle Tourish brings you all you need to know about the headline acts.
Space Ibiza was awarded ‘Best Global Club’ at the International Dance Music Awards in 2005, 2006, 2012, and again in 2013. To celebrate the Playa d’en Bossa venue’s 25th anniversary, the brand is organising a tour that will bring both the spirit and the best music from Ibiza to the four corners of the world.
From Moscow and Johannesburg to Jakarta, New York, London and Dubai, the tour will visit 25 cities – one for every year of the club’s history. The Dubai event will take place at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis The Palm, on Friday November 14 with an international DJ line-up including Riva Starr, Tiefschwarz, M.A.N.D.Y. and Camilo Franco. We bring you their biogs.
Anyone who has heard of Camilo Franco knows he’s an exemplary, hard-working DJ. Week in, week out, he is constantly on the move, attending his residency at Space Ibiza during club season and DJing at clubs and festivals throughout the rest of the year.
His eclectic mix of house, tech-house and EDM has triggered an unstoppable dance floor frenzy. Born in Colombia but raised in Spain, Camilo started his career as a DJ at the fresh age of 15 and was soon spinning in clubs all over the country. Over the years he has amassed quite the collection of awards and accolades and is one of the most internationally booked DJs based in Spain.
Remixing is a field that holds no boundaries for this artist. He has worked with world-famous producers such as Chus & Ceballos, Lorenzo Aldino and René Amesz, among many others. His house and tech house productions have achieved great success – proof of that being the popularity of his track ‘I Got’, which made it into the Beatport Top 100 list.
There is an air of mystery shrouding the true meaning behind the acronym M.A.N.D.Y., an alias that embodies the mutual talents of childhood friends Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer.
The pair have carved a unique niche in electronic music by always selecting productions that induce their audience into a somatic frenzy.
On the platform of their aptly titled Get Physical label, M.A.N.D.Y. have achieved massive success in colluding to create music that simply makes bodies move. Their foot-stamping, hair-flying passion has been the ultimate expression of a dance music phenomenon for many years. The boys have closed on a revolutionary touring show that utilises infrared technology and a new mapping technique to project inverted video effects onto their physical form as they perform.
A creative magnet of the highest degree, Riva Starr, also known as Stefano Miele, draws his inspiration from such a diverse range of sources that it makes it practically impossible to pigeonhole his style. However, even the quickest of glances at the acclaimed DJ and producer’s lengthy list of collaborations and remixes gives us an idea of his eclecticism; having teamed up with artists from Horace Andy and Roots Manuva to Fatboy Slim and Beardyman, and delivered his own take on singles by Van Helden and Plan B.
Originally hailing from Naples but now based in London, Stefano’s hidden talents include a degree in Chinese Literature, hinting at the producer’s passion for different cultures, which resonates throughout his musical style.
His mercurial approach to music means that artistically he never stands still. A groundbreaker, he has paved the way for several new scenes, dropping trend-setting tunes before moving on again in ever more exciting directions.
Born and bred in Stuttgart, brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz’s passion for techno and deep house dominated their initial experience as DJs in the early ’90s. This led to the formation of Tiefschwarz in 1997, from which they found rapid success with their debut single ‘Music’.
A series of high-profile mixes in 2006, including of Depeche Mode, Madonna, Roxy Music, and Booka Shade, saw them continue perfecting their distinctive sound. After years of constant touring, however, their Souvenir label has allowed them to lay down more permanent roots back in Berlin.
With plenty more artists on the roster as well as a digital-only subsidiary Souvenir Plus, and a debut LP from Hagelstein on the horizon, there is promise of plenty more yet to come for the Schwarz brothers’ imprint.
