It’s Audio Tonic’s third birthday, but how will its residents celebrate? There's only one way to find out
What’s your highlight from the last year of Audio Tonic? Mr Mr: There’ve been so many, but it would have to be the two opening events last October, with Jimpster, Spirit Catcher and Motorcitysoul – amazing music and the most incredible vibe. After a long, hot summer break everyone just couldn’t stop smiling!
Julian Jinx: The beautiful Brazilian girl who asked me to marry her in the middle of my set.
Why do you think Audio Tonic has done well over these last three years? Mr Mr: A combination of knowing what people want to hear, what’s cutting edge and innovative, and how far you can push a prime time radio slot [Audio Tonic is broadcast live on Radio 1 from 8pm-10pm]. And, of course, we have the 58th best venue in the world, according to DJ Magazine.
JC: It’s free entry, with none of those outrageous ‘dress code’ policies.
Another year older. But are you guys any wiser? Mr Mr: I’d like to think so! A lot has happened in the last year – I got married and have a mini-Mr on the way, so, in theory at least, I become wiser every day!
Julian Jinx: A recent ECG scan has shown that my brain has shrunk to a third of its original size. I was always a bit too clever for my own good, so now I’m mentally 13 years old it’s about right.
Vas: I think we are growing up every year – musically, not mentally! We started with electro, but now we have chill out, nu-disco, funk, deep house, funky house, tech house, progressive house and even melodic techno.
What’s the worst birthday present you ever got, and why? Mr Mr: When I was about 10, I decided one day that school was just not on the cards. I ran away for about three hours and hid up a tree. My folks found me and cancelled my birthday party a few days later for being naughty. The humiliation when I had to tell my friends!
Julian Jinx: My friends rented me a bad-tempered ostrich that they locked me in a room with. It ended in a messy divorce, with the ostrich taking half my money. But that’s another story.
What’s your birthday wish? Mr Mr: For Audio Tonic to celebrate its fourth birthday on the airwaves next year with even more hooked ears, gleaming smiles, clapping and cheers!
Craig Cameron: For my relationship with the crowd and crew to keep growing as well as it has done in the short time I’ve been here.
Raxon: A new CD wallet please. Thank you.
What should the Audio Tonic crowd bring as a present? Mr Mr: The biggest present would be a big box of stamina! Be ready to stay the course from 4pm-2am for a full day of dancing, smiling, and superb music. As always, an open mind, no qualms and maybe a portable fan to cool the DJs. Just bring your love for Audio Tonic!
Craig Cameron: Just themselves, a really good mood and the desire to dance all night! I think that would be the best present everyone at Audio Tonic could receive.
