Following on from the fridge sharing initiative that has swept across the city over the past 12 months, Dubai Municipality has launched a new initiative to provide drinks, fruit and dairy products to those fasting during the day but exercising at night.
More than 30 fridges have popped up across 22 parks, see list below, as part of the Ramadan Walk initiative. Mohammed Mubarak Al Mutaiwei, assistant director general for communication and community sector at Dubai Municipality, was quoted by state news agency WAM as describing the initiative as coinciding with the Year of Giving and Ramadan, and forms a part of the municipality’s keenness to continue raising awareness of the importance of health and exercise.
As such, all fridges are stocked with juices, dates and dairy, which it says benefits individuals engaging in exercise.
“The Ramadan Walk initiative will instil health awareness on the importance of exercise during the Holy Month, especially the fact that the month of Ramadan urges to take care of health,” said Al Mutaiwei. “Exercise plays an important role in maintaining the body’s balance of fluids, muscles, fat and bones, and in the prevention of disease. Dubai Municipality has also set up running tracks in parks to encourage the community to exercise.”
