We can’t help but feel a surge of affection every time we visit this Satwa eatery peddling the very best in basic Pakistani fare – and visits aplenty there have been. Some years back, you’d have no problem getting a table. Today, the place is consistently packed. While the prices have gone up (albeit slightly), the plastic tablecloths and nonplussed staff are still in situ – and we really wouldn’t have it any other way. As for the food, it is still as good as it always was. Among the standouts here, the chicken kadai is exceptional and actually rather unique: beautifully cooked meat encased in a variety of spices still simultaneously wows and amazes the taste buds. The dal fry in all its thick, yellow sauce is gently spiced yet luxurious with wonderfully thick lentils. There’s just something extra special about Ravi that makes you want to travel from wherever you are in Dubai to sample cooking as good as this – and we’re not talking about the plastic chairs.
