You’d be hard pressed to find a place in Dubai with more character and charm than this funky beachside spot. There is a revolutionary vibe with graffiti scrawled on walls, grungy seating and rocking live bands and DJs. It all seems very ‘un-Dubai’, and the change is welcome. If the food wasn’t up to scratch, however, the crowds that regularly drop into Malecon wouldn’t stop by. Thankfully a menu crammed with Latin classics puts more celebrated restaurants to shame. A pan-roasted duck comes with a sweet potato salsa and a creamy mushroom sauce to produce an interesting blend of flavours. We’re also big fans of the saffron jumbo shrimps, served with seafood risotto and a mango papaya relish. Desserts have a similarly fun Cuban feel, with our favourite being a chocolate mousse filled cigar served with mango sorbet in a sweet ashtray. Come along on one of the many salsa nights and you’ll find the closest Dubai has to authentic Latin entertainment.
