The quality of its deli food is what the New York brand has built its fantastic reputation on, but at Dubai Mall you’ll find a very classy café to go alongside it. Decor is simple, yet classy, all black and white and shiny, with the bulk made up of the indoor restaurant and the rest divided into the cake counter, outdoor terrace (which overlooks the Dubai Fountain) and gourmet shop. Service is prompt and friendly, and the menu, while quite simple, boasts impressively persuasive food shots (we challenge you not to get the New York Cheesecake after flicking through the menu). The food itself is not staggering: the lasagne can be salty, the goat’s cheese and walnut salad a little too ‘dressed’, but the New York-experience itself is enough alone to return for.

I went there for the promise of the fabulous deli food built up by the New York Dean & Deluca reputation.

Since more often than not I was only one of a few people there on a Friday morning after going to the Farmers market on the steps, I had expected more.

The food was freshly prepared but insipid and unimaginative. I enjoyed shopping in their store more than the actual eating experience.
