Segreto, Madinat Jumeirah
Nominated for Best Italian 15 Comments
A journey to this high-end Italian involves a winding abra ride through the quietest and most peaceful part of the bustling Madinat Jumeirah, which, in winter, is a peaceful and romantic way to approach a meal. Service is honest and efficient, and the menu concise, with a range of fairly standard appetisers, risottos, a small number of pastas and then fish and meat dishes. On our last visit, we settled on a carpaccio (acceptable), a rich saffron and bone marrow risotto (bold) and a well-peppered lamb with texturally terrific gnocchi and cheese foccacia. Segreto is worth a visit for its out-of-the-way location and quiet ambience, but it isn’t quite the restaurant it used to be.
