XVA Café, Al Fahidi
Nominated for Best Café 3 Comments
As far as art cafés go, the XVA is Dubai’s original stalwart. Set at the heart of Bastakiya, it is an open-air courtyard within a multi-tasking modern-gallery-hotel-boutique-office-events-venue (Pablo Coehlo even held one of his book launches here a few years back). Tables are centred round trees, birds and mosques sing around you: it is perhaps one of the most Zen spots in all of Dubai. The menu is short and healthy with a predominance of smoothies, Arabic-inspired salads, sandwiches and mains, as well as homemade muffins (if the date and dried apricot is available – try it). Service can be a little on the slow side – but even that fits in with the place’s arty vibe. Next time you’re in the area, be sure to drop by.
