Sakura, Crowne Plaza

Nominated for Best Japanese Comments

The Crowne Plaza Dubai is hiding a secret within its dated walls. Exceptional food at reasonable prices with refined service is what makes a good dining experience, and Sakura satisfies on every level. The decor – a kitsch mix of enlarged stereotypically Japanese photos and oddly shaped windows – is its only downfall. The menu is simple, yet boasts one or two options that you won’t find at even the best Japanese restaurants in town, such as the delightful crunchy salmon skin maki rolled in spring onions, and the Japanese answer to hot pot, shabu shabu. Prices are reasonable and the food is as good, if not better, than most mid-range restaurants in Dubai. The dessert menu could do with sprucing up, but if it’s green tea ice cream or tempura ice cream that makes you happy, then look no further.

Waiting for 45 minutes till the chef arrives (we called and booked the table for 19:30 and chef arrived at 20:15). Looks like he was just doing his job and he was board. receiving a Fork for one of our guest that did not know how to eat with Chopsticks took them 13 minutes. quality of food especially the meet was really great. There was 5 servers available at the venue and we have been just 4 of us in the whole restaurant, but still.....
I suggest you guys to try Benihana that we really enjoyed their service and show.

We waited for more than half an hour for the live cooking station to prep and be ready. Staffs were like in a job that they don't want doing. Food was great though, but would not want to come back until proper customer service is practiced by the staff..

Confusing location as you have to go through a French bar to get to it, but that's the architect's fault I suppose! Friendly, if a bit slow service, nice ambiance, cooking tables available. I tried one of their Japanese salads which was very interesting, miso soup is very good and excellant Sushi. The star of the show howeverwas the beef Sukiyaki. It is served in an old fashion Japanese cast iron skillet, sliced very thinly and marinated in a subtle sweetish sauce then cooked in a slow fire, it melts in your mouth and is out of this world. If you think you've had it before, just go and try Sakura's and then you can judge. The prices are not cheap but they're not exagerated either. Definately worth the money. The average per person (without alcoholic beverages) is AED 270.

Wow,

We discovered a high quality restaurant serving excellent food. The restaraunt is small which provides a unique and almost intimate dining experience.

The service was outstanding and reinstates the Dubai of a few years ago where nothing is a problem to the service team. I had my family there last night and will be returning very soon for coorperate dinners. I am confident they can do it all.

I cannot wait to experience the private dining rooms that are furnished in traditional Japanese settings, floor seating and all.

The wine list was well considered offering a good selection of French and Australiain good value venos.

Thank you Sakura, excellent and we will see you again soon.

Strange entrances in the restaurant that we have to pass through wine bar and got confused. but the business lunch for 99dhs all you can eat is nice and good value for money, including unlimited soft drinks and a cup of coffee after the lunch.

Not a very upscale place, and weird entrance through a wine bar. However the food is amazing and the service is quite good. The dining area is small and the teppenyaki tables are the place to be seated, so a reservation beforehand is highly recommended.
