Da Shi Dai

On a corner at the bottom of the Murjan Building on the ‘wrong’ side of JBR’s The Walk, the discreet location of Cantonese Chinese restaurant Da Shi Dai gives away very little about the fare served within its four walls. It’s a shame the place is mostly empty, because the interior is as light and tasteful as the food, but looks can be deceiving, as Da Shi Dai does a good trade through its takeaway/delivery service. And considering how tasty and excellent value most of the dishes are, we can see why. It’s got a reputation for great dim sum, and more than half the menu is devoted to all manner of these bite-size delights – all homemade, which is rare – and they even serve the elusive cheung fan variety (delicious rice noodle rolls with various fillings). Other items include rice and noodle dishes, stir fries, meat and tofu, congee (rice soup) and clay pots – the latter deserving particular praise. They call it ‘the lighter side of Chinese dining’ and we think that’s pretty much spot on.
