Zheng He’s is an indisputably stylish venue with beautiful, elegant decor and a wonderfully romantic setting on the Madinat Jumeirah waterways, complete with distant sea views and glimpses of the Burj Al Arab. It’s a shame, then, that the ambience outdoors is spoiled in the evenings by the noise and loud dance music from Bahri Bar directly above. Dining indoors, in the company of framed Chinese paintings and textiles and the interior’s intricate wood detailing, is a pleasant solution, yet you can’t help feeling the problem could have been avoided altogether through better planning. The excellent staff will happily talk you through the menu, which includes a separate live seafood section. Little additions, such as truffles and caviar with your dim sum, elevate the dishes above your standard fare, yet you may wonder whether such touches are enough to justify the high prices. Nevertheless, the delightful surroundings make it easy to put aside such thoughts, and you’re celebrating a special occasion at Zheng He’s, the high-class experience will duly impress.
Open daily noon-3pm, 7pm-11.30pm. Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah, www.jumeirah.com (04 366 6730).

We have eaten at Zheng He's several times now over the last 2 years. But last night it was lacking in everything... no atmosphere, serving staff lacked that little sparkle and the food was disappointingly average. We were looking forward to a night out with tasty food in a warming environment but after the not so crispy duck and pancakes we just wanted to go. The veal and beef tenderloin dishes had a thick heavy sauce coating the meat which no balance or brightness. It just coated your mouth. It used to be a favourite but not anymore. At over 1000 AED for 2 its expensive and there are too many other fabulous places to eat in Dubai in that price range.

The location of this restaurant is really excellent and impressive if you get good window seating or outside in the winter. The food in general is not true Chinese rather fusion if this is what you are after. Always better book as for some strange reason they don't appreciate people walk-in requesting table even when actually the restaurant is rather half empty. The staff are attentive but not all as some are just have not got a clue what serving in a restaurant is all about "enjoying your food" . I wouldn't say never again but will be there if have to for the location when I have guests to entertain over looking burj alarab. I just wish the management teaches the staff to welcome walking in people they come to enjoy !

It wasn't our choice to go there but the couple who invited us out did not make reservations in time at a different Chinese Food restaurant and they decided to go to this one. It was Chinese New Year with a set meal for 750 AED each. The inside was too dark and the food, while edible was not spectacular and for that price you would expect better. Total price we paid for half the bill came to over $500.00 which included 2 dinners, 1 bottle of wine and 1 beer. On a good note, they did have a Lion Dance but seen lot's of them so no real value to that. Anyway, never again!!!

This place had good food and good service. If I could've seen the decorations, maybe I would've given it more points. This place was way too dark. They were trying to pull off the classy look...it failed by a long shot. The waiters were busy chatting, instead of greeting us at the door. I found this pretty disappointing considering how much we pay for their service and food. A bowl of rice is 30AED while a main course is just 40AED ... that just doesn't make sense to me.

I would go again for the delicious food, but all of the other things about the restaurant turned me down.
