As you may have guessed from the restaurant's name, the primary USP at Vu's, located on the 50th floor of Jumeirah Emirates Towers, is the vista. Sure, it's high up, and yes, diners can sit in front of a wide expanse of window. However, the view itself is not quite as far reaching or impressive as you might expect, offering little scope to see across the city. Turn your eye inward and the decor is smart, with plenty of natural light (thanks to those windows), yet it feels out of sync with modern tastes – perhaps unsurprising considering this is one of Dubai's older fine-dining establishments. Service is formal, efficient and knowledgeable vis-à-vis the menu, although occasionally a little stiff. The food itself, which offers modern cooking within a largely European framework, is fairly ambitious in concept and presentation, with dishes such as slow roasted Australian lamb loin with a pistachio crust or braised wagyu beef brisket with bone marrow and girolles mushrooms, sounding and looking exceptionally exciting. And the menu tastes good, too.
