Descend the stairs at Traiteur, into the instantly impressive space of concentric arches and high ceilings, featuring ingredients displayed honestly in glass chillers and the show-stopping stage of an open kitchen. It is this that lays out Traiteur’s intentions from the outset; understated elegance, where all eyes are on the food itself. While the restaurant space is striking and the staff attentive and proficient, here they are mere conduits to Traiteur’s true raison d’etre, which is chef Simon de Wipf’s incredible cooking. Combining Mediterranean references with elements of the classic French school, the accessible range of dishes at Traiteur are created with a focus on a modest handful of star ingredients, perfectly prepared and allowed to take the limelight in uncluttered excellence. Try the salad of locally-sourced burrata, with popping bursts of heirloom tomato, or the exceptionally textured, creamy yet crisp, pan-friend gnocchi, which are among the very finest we’ve tried.
