The F&B team at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray must have had Charlie Chaplin in mind when they designed Voi. The black-and-white themed art-deco style restaurant has the feel of a 1920s French dining room, with romantic touches such as elaborate crystal chandeliers, high ceilings, a feature wall and high-backed chairs. The menu is just as delicate and features one of Dubai’s most affordable tasting menus at Dhs495 per person. There’s also a Dhs595 option, and menus are updated frequently. The cheaper option starts with a prawn, herb and foie gras filled summer roll, followed by deep-fried rice net spring rolls with a sweet dipping sauce. The highlights of the menu, however, are the pot au feu, a traditional Vietnamese broth, poured at the table, and served with fresh herbs, beef cheeks and bone marrow (which you suck out) and the unusual yet tasty vanilla steamed pacific cod. The desserts can tend to fall a little flat, but if you keep your eye on the main event, you’ll walk away impressed.
