You can’t miss Farsi if you’re walking around Cluster R in JLT. This is possibly the grandest-looking restaurant in the neighbourhood, and at night its gold lettering shines brightly. Inside is also regal with sparkly chandeliers, intricate mosaics and dark wood furniture with fine-dining tableware. Jarring slightly with this décor is a TV, which on our visit was showing an Arabic news channel. It’s advisable to arrive hungry as portions are sizeable, with large, moreish slabs of Iranian bread. Meat dishes are the speciality, particularly the mixed grill. It’s not all that sophisticated, but a plate of chicken, beef and lamb with a huge pile of saffron rice is sure to satisfy most. There’s also a small buffet to tackle, but going à la carte seems to offer a better standard of cuisine. It’s hard to fault the staff here, who are all friendly and efficient. Being greeted with complimentary bread and salad is guaranteed to get the meal off to a good start. It’s a little bit expensive, but this is a cut above its casual neighbours.
