It’s a shame that a café occupying such a pleasant spot in The Dubai Mall, opposite The Waterfall, is let down by its food. The few select dishes on the menu are Italian in name, but fail in their execution. The delightful-sounding linguini con gambaretti – shrimps, garlic and feta cheese in marinara sauce – is overpoweringly garlicky. The pasta ragu, flagged up as the signature dish, is a better option, the inclusion of cinnamon giving the flavour an interesting twist, but it’s still slightly overpowering. Staff, while sometimes difficult to flag down, are friendly enough though, and according to the menu, Caffé Vergnano 1882 has been roasting coffee for more than 125 years – and in this area they definitely do impress.
