Despite ongoing Safa Park construction work when we visited, The Archive still felt calm and peaceful. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook grass and palms and fill the space with natural light. The all-day breakfast menu is a treat and consists of classic breakfast food, jazzed up with the addition of things like caramelised banana and fudgy date ‘granola’ to top a bowl of yoghurt, and pancakes made with coconut flour and served with a sweet, fruity melon compote. Salads are on the small side, but sandwiches come with plenty of filling; the chicken katsu choice is particularly good. The café’s integrated library space is dotted with people working on laptops, so solo diners won’t feel out of place, and you could easily spend hours eating, sipping coffee and browsing the fascinating books on art and design in the Arab world; we recommend you do.
