  • Al Mahara
If you think feasting on fish while being glared at by a posse of piscine pals is a little sadistic, then Al Mahara probably isn’t for you. If, like us, you can’t help but marvel at the array of sea life swimming around the huge tank that is this restaurant’s centerpiece, then you’ll love it.

It is expensive, though. Starters cost more than main courses in most places and mains more than the entire bill in your average restaurant.

But Al Mahara is not your average restaurant, nor is the Burj Al Arab your average hotel. It’s a monument to the opulent, a world-famous symbol of Dubai’s stature and home to this fine seafood restaurant, which uses top-notch ingredients.

The king crab and foie gras raviolo is served with just-right pasta, a standout light shellfish jus and sweet, braised baby leeks, as well as a consommé as clear as day, with beautiful chunks of fish.

For mains, our scallops are the freshest, cooked perfectly and married with a delicate array of mushrooms and vegetables, and a piece of meaty turbot that comes with yet another winning sauce.

Even if you only go once, Al Mahara is worth it.

The bottom line
The seafood here is some of the best you’ll find in Dubai, but it really should be at these prices. Al Mahara

Lovely setting but it wouldn't make a top 10 of seafood restaurants in the city. And the prices are a total rip off.

The equivalent of 145 quid English for a small lobster main course? Ha ha ha.

Had a lovely lunch there - the service was discreet and the food was tasty and we had a tour straight after the lunch so they knew we are eating against the clock and really made an effort to serve the three course fast. As well really liked the fish book they gave us to explain what fish are in the aquarium. Nice touch.

Great Business lunch and they allow kids for lunch in this restaurant - so when we had family over - we went there and my niece was amazed at all the fish and they gave her a little soft toy turtle and a kids activity pack which she really loved.
So what can I say attentive, caring service in a fantastic serene environment.
