Amid the frenzy of recent Latin restaurant openings, one venue quietly slipped onto the Brazilian scene, with the arrival of cute and unassuming café House of Pão in Downtown Dubai. On the Boulevard, there’s an outdoor space, with beachy-looking white tables and chairs and a couple of cosy sofas decked with cushions. Inside, the café is decorated with wooden chairs in primary colours and the floor has that iconic Portuguese combination of white and black mosaic swirls. The menu is a simple one-page list on brown card with classic pão de queijo, riffs of this theme (including one stuffed with olives), pastels (little stuffed pasties), salads, sandwiches and desserts. At House of Pão, the menu is just the right side of familiar yet excitingly different from your average café. It is also fairly affordable and if you are looking for an enjoyable yet uncommon café experience on the Boulevard, this place is worth a go.
