Serving Afghan, Pakistani and north Indian cuisine, with a few token Middle Eastern dishes thrown in too, this casual eatery in Downtown is surprisingly good, specialising in – you guessed it – barbecued and grilled delights. The high-ceilinged interior is pleasant, with tables and chairs spilling onto the pavement outside. We recommend the barbecue fish tikka and malai tikka, the former beautifully marinated with red chilli, ginger, garlic and coriander seeds and accompanied by a tangy tamarind sauce, and the latter made up of tender skewered chicken pieces with a mild herby marinade. If you steer clear of western dishes such as and stick to what the chefs do best – namely kebabs, grilled meats and South Asian staples such as dahl – you really can’t go wrong. Even vegetarians will find plenty to choose from.
