There was much excitement around the opening of Burger & Lobster, a London import that does what it says on the tin.
Its decor, staff who act like your mate, and funky soundtrack are all plus points. There is no menu, just three options given to you by your waiter. A chilled lobster roll, lobster or a burger. Oh, and you can order a “big” lobster from the tanks. There’s also a sharing option for two that includes a bit of everything. Maybe there should be a menu after all.
Information about the food is lacking. What kind of beef is it? Where are the lobsters from? In an age when responsible sourcing (and quality) of ingredients is high on diner’s agendas, this would be welcome. The whole grilled lobster, is good – juicy and cooked well. The burger, well, it’s a burger. Nothing particularly good or bad about it. Both come with a well-dressed salad and fries.
Each dish is Dhs127 (Dhs140 with DIFC fee). We’re well up for the idea of taking away the gloss of fine-dining, especially in DIFC, but the prices also need to reflect that. And when you only serve three things they have to be absolutely knock-out; we can’t say that everything is here.
The bottom line A cool idea and an enjoyable hangout, but we want more from the food.
