For too long The Greens has looked longingly at its neighbours (especially JLT) yearning for a little bit of the café culture. Well, not anymore, and thanks to the effortlessly cool Arrows & Sparrows, a second outlet from the team behind Friends’ Avenue Café in JLT, there is an envious gaze from all corners back in the direction of this leafy suburb. Borrowing many of the ingredients that make their first spot a must-visit, particularly in the mix of earthy tones, its mild industrial feel and funky trinkets, it’s already attracting quite the crowd with a refreshing and not-too-try-hard menu of breakfast classics with a twist. For example, Miss Benedict takes two eggs on gorgeous doorstep multigrain bread and tosses in a kale and asparagus salad, a tremendously sweet beetroot hollandaise and a huge dollop of guacamole. Mr Benedict is much the same, adding striploin steak and smoked babaganoush. Both come in at under Dhs50 and are big enough to see you through to dinner. For later-in-the-day visits – breakfast stops at 11am during the week and at 3pm at the weekend – there’s an original array of salads worth tucking into (superfood, tangy rice and peanut chicken, all under Dhs35) served in deep bowls and layered extravagantly. With an ever-evolving menu and a drive to keep ahead of the game, we can't see Arrows & Sparrows doing anything other than flourishing.
