Handi

Indian & Pakistani

  • Handi
Deira isn’t all about cheap and cheerful curries – and the five-star Taj Palace hotel is just one property to have staked a claim on the market for higher-end Indian eats. Focusing on north Indian cuisine in particular, Handi offers a variety of tandoori and wet dishes in smart, comfortable surroundings. Given the price, you may be surprised to note that the venue is not licensed, but nevertheless, the ingredients are indisputably a cut above what you’ll find in the city’s more affordable canteen-style eateries. From the tandoor, try the murg tikka husseini, but seafood lovers should avoid the lassoni jhinga (king prawns), which are mercilessly cooked to a tough, chewy oblivion. The chef’s special five-lentil dahl is gloriously sloppy, wholesome and rich with cumin, while the aloo gobi has the tang of tomato and a dash of heat. The surroundings themselves lack the character and bustle ardent fans of Old Dubai might hope for, but on the food front, Handi won’t let them down. Handi
