With quirky cafés, fancier restaurants and everything in between in JLT, smaller takeaway-style venues such as StarFish can end up being overlooked in JLT.
While the décor may be a little bland, we’re swiftly won over by the quick and attentive service. Plus, although the restaurant is small, the portions are anything but.
Be warned, an appetiser here is pretty much the same size as a main course, so head over ravenous or choose wisely.
Tempura prawns are chunky, soft and tasty, offering a nice contrast to the crispy batter, and come served with a stack of golden fries (yes, chips with a starter, we aren’t lying about the generous helpings).
It’s a decent start. The main, however, is a little underwhelming. The grilled salmon, while pleasant, needs something to lift it, which isn’t provided by the sparse seasoning.
If you’ve still got room, opt for a chocolate brownie, which is served warm and gooey with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
StarFish isn’t a place to go for a five-star slap-up meal, but with hearty food, excellent service and wallet-friendly prices, it’s well worth a second look.
The bottom line Simple, tasty and not going to break the bank. Worth a look.
