Newest to the chain of McGettigan’s Irish pubs across the city, JBR’s intimate branch has proven just as popular in the few months since its launch.
It recently changed hours to open from 12.30pm on weekends (serving breakfast and lunch), and is just about the only choice in the neighbourhood when it comes to non-smoking sports bars, which the regular crowds may owe to.
Though not operated by McGettigan’s Group, much on the menu will be familiar to those who frequent the JLT, DWTC and Madinat Jumeirah branches. King among them is McGettigan’s’ best-selling Buffalo chicken wrap, which just about lives up to the standards set across the rest of the city, packed with heat and the sharp tang of Buffalo hot sauce. But if you’ve a big appetite, only the McGettigan’s Beef Burger (pictured) will do. A mammoth meal, packed with bacon, cheese and dill pickle, we defy you to finish every last fry even if you do manage to put the whole patty away. Slightly less successful is the fish and chips, encased in a spongy, almost pancake-like batter.
Still, there’s lots to like here. And for sports and snacks in a smoke-free environment, this little Irish pub pretty much owns the area.
The bottom line Decent pub grub, if not the chain’s best.
