One of the best parts of going to the cinema surely is scoffing a whole tub of popcorn or eating a hotdog slathered with lashings of inexplicably liquefied cheese.
This being Dubai, there are plenty of places where you can take that experience to the next level by slinking into a massive chair for some in-seat, full-on-meal service.
But at US celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s new Dine-in Cinema in Jebel Ali, the Dhs160 ticket cost is very reasonable – particularly considering the moreish grub on offer such as mac ’n’ cheeseburgers and trashcan nachos, the latter of which are constructed into a free-standing cylindrical tower.
The cost includes entry to a film of your choice, plus a starter and main which are served to your seat.
Desserts are extra, as are drinks. Yes, that’s right – this cinema is licensed, and it’s the first in the UAE to be so.
We opt for the Dine-In experience during a showing of A Quiet Place – a horror flick that is almost completely silent for the first 30 minutes.
Despite this, we barely notice the staff creeping stealthily around the cinema carrying plates.
It is, however, at this point that we self-consciously realise that our entire order consists of crunchy components. Eating the crudités and hummus becomes an incredibly awkward feat, and that’s not to mention the crispy fries with our burgers.
That being said, it’s worth the effort because the food – aptly thought up by the chef of US TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives fame – trumps other movie eats.
Sadly, you won’t find any reclining seats (bizarrely they are fixed to rails), but that doesn’t diminish the red carpet experience that’s well above the usual cinema outing. Just make sure you watch an action film to mask your chomping.
The bill (for two) 2x tickets including movies, starter and main course Dhs320 2x mocktails Dhs70 Total (inc service) Dhs390
The bottom line A-list treatment at a decent price.
