Rivington Bar & Grill
British favourites and service with personality next to the Dubai Fountain
Priding itself on Brit classics and polished pub favourites, the food is consistently good, the setting smart and the atmosphere relaxed and convivial. Staff are opinionated and engaging, offering real recommendations rather than just reeling off the specials (though that daily menu is worth keeping an eye on).
Go for the Scotch hen’s egg or black Angus steak tartare to start – and if you’re here on holiday or have visitors in town, all dishes, weather permitting, are best enjoyed on the restaurant’s terrace, which overlooks the all-singing, all-dancing Dubai Fountain (not to mention the towering Burj Khalifa, just across the water). The fish and chips are a worthy main event, served in a super-crisp yet extremely delicate batter, alongside fresh minted mushy peas and home-made chips so sizeable you could almost build a house with them.
For destination British dining overlooking some of the city’s most famous landmarks, look no further.
The bottom line

Very disappointing. The service was dreadful, waited so long for a menu we had to ask again, then the wait for our three meals was even worse and given that two were on the daily special annoyed even more. Infact, I was so convinced that we had been forgotten that I went in to ask, and was met with a response of giggles and smiles! 8 minutes later our meals arrived and what a let down. My salmon may have been simmering away for so long they could have simply boiled it and made sure the last of the colour and any hint of flavour was definitely removed. I'm not sure if the chef has been trained but the crispy egg was closer to a scotch egg than something delicate. A place to strike off any list.

Having dined at the Rivington at Souk Al Bahar on a number of occasions I made another reservation for last Thursday on the terrace at 9pm. We've always gone there earlier, between 7:30-8:00pm, and based on Thursday's experience will revert to the earlier timing in future.
I'd requested an outside table which we were seated at on time and then things started to go wrong. It took 10 minutes for a waiter to take our drinks order which arrived after another 10 minutes with one drink forgotten. We ordered our food and wine. The starters arrived and the wine arrived as we were finishing. Our mains followed and the glass of red my husband had ordered to accompany his beef was nowhere to be seen. A good 15 minutes after we'd all completed our mains our plates were still languishing on the table. Deserts arrived slightly faster but there was another wait for coffee.
Our food was superb but this particular experience was really let down by the abyssmal service. I realise that we'd dined at what was likely the busiest time of the week but that is no excuse.
We will return, but earlier!
One last thought. It's incredibly dark when you are seated outside. The mood would be greatly enhanced through the use of candles and would negate the use of torches to read menus.

I went for the business lunch last week and was sadly disappointed.
The mushroon soup to start seemed to have split and the best thing about my salmon salad was the beetroot! There were just specks of salmon on the plate, I felt a little cheated but was too embarassed to mention anything to the waiter. As my food was put in front of me both my hubby and his colleague apologised for ordering me the dish! Hubby's fish pie was "adequate" his words not mine.
My lemon posset was lovely though! A taste that reminded me of my childhood so thank you for that!
Fantastic location and great views with average food.
Maybe i was expecting too much because of all the hype before my visit

Always a lovely place to come and share good food and wine with friends.
I have been here often and have never had a bad meal.
They are part of the Jumeirah Group and therefore you can collect points on your Sirius card....they don't tell you this though. So make sure you have your card handy at the end when you pay.
Is great when the weather is cooler to sit outside and enjoy the fountains too.

I have been to the Rivington Grill on at least 7 or 8 times since it’s opening and always had a thoroughly enjoyable experience, therefore I am amazed at the reviews complaining of bad food or bad service. Apart from its impressive setting the Service and Food are the restaurant's two greatest assets, making it one of my favorite in Dubai. I always recommend it to friends who all report back favorably, including a friend visiting from London who is a restaurateur.
