I've not actually been to the Dubai version yet, but I'll be going soon. I've just had a double take moment as I walked through JBR, and had a flashback to mis-spent uni days in Lancaster. The original is absolutely brilliant, although it's certainly not a traditional English curry house. The emphasis there is on the food rather than the beer (which they don't serve), and I don't think they serve tikka masala either, which immediately rules it out as a traditional Englush curry house.
Here's hoping the new Dubai version can match it's Lancastrian counterpart.

I absolutely loved the place. i dont know where the other poster got his information, however the Sultan of Lancaster did not enimtae from Bolton as his post suggests, but LANCASTER , Lancashire, England. my city of birth. Being my city of birth i can say as an englishman, without doubt that the original Sultan Of lancaster is undoubtedly one of the better eatieries in Lancaster and by far the best Indian.
As far as the Dubai version goes, we have to be a little sympathetic at times and give establishments some time to start up and get rid of the typical teething problems a new restaurant always has.
i have been there 3 times now and each time ive seen a marked improvement. to be honest the food was always good, my issue was with the querky atmosphere... it is now as 'dim'as you'd expect an indian restaurant to be and i believe they are working hard on the atmosphere.
Im sure we will see the true Lancastrian Sultan coming out of JBR soon.!! Good Luck
