Casual lounge dining alongside Dubai's polo club
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011A family-friendly spot with a terrace that sits adjacent to the polo field near Arabian Ranches – lit up in the early evening with floodlights while the riders and their horses practise – Epona Lounge is one of the city’s more unusual places to enjoy a meal, but is certainly worth a try. While during the week the restaurant remains relatively quiet save for a few families and couples enjoying drinks or dinner outdoors, Fridays see the venue get extremely busy, thanks to a popular brunch on the terrace. The food selection is reasonably varied and there’s little distinction between the prices of dishes listed as appetisers and those listed as mains.
One of the most reasonably priced is pea and mint soup, which can be served either hot or cold and tastes surprisingly like it has been homemade. Ignore the chicken tikka served with cashew rice – the meat has a jelly-like consistency. Opt for the prawns on rye; essentially an open prawn cocktail sandwich with the seafood served in a homemade dressing. Fresh-tasting, reasonable on the wallet and not a piece of gristle in sight.
