Having dined at Thyme numerous times I am quite astonished about the variety of reviews given so far.
We have had romantic dinners, dinners with friends and also celebrated a birthday with about 20 p. for which we had reserved the corner on the right side in the back.
Service was excellent and attentive, I'm always amazed about the well trained staff (though reservations sometimes got lost). Food - excellent, I'd discribe it as real Mediterranian, a mixture of Prevance (south France), Spanish and novell Italian cuisine (not US mediterrainian). Given that it IS located in a good hotel and licensed I definitely don't find it expensive - compared to other restaurants in similar settings. At the Butcher shop the final bill hurts more for the amount consumed - and had no wine with the food! I guess it's all a question of perspective.
Ambience is like a mediterranian back yard or Spanish cellar restaurant, maybe mixed with a little bit French brasserie, easy, lovely. The only sad thing is that they have no outside seating (and maybe that smoking is allowed in the bar). Sometimes it is a bit noisy when it is very full.
Otherwise it is one of the still 'normal' easy going restaurants - just what is rare in Dubai - not too expensive, quite well in the middle.
I believe that some people have not understood the concept of the food - it is a bit like tapas in Spain - you order a few, put them on the table and 'share' all of them. I love this concept, the portions are not too big so you can have quite a nice selection (though we still usually order too much;) - and usually the waiters recommend what goes good to gether if you can't decide. The menue is nice, not too long but I have to agree for repeated guests some variety would be nice - though I already missed a few items (like the scallop risotto, which was a huge portion we could never finish among 2) when they changed the menue. Everything very tasty and mouth watering.
All in all I have to say that in my opinion the restaurant is highly underrated - I love it the way it is and maybe I love it the better as it is not so very crowded during the week. But it were too sad if they had to close down because some people can't honour a nice friendly easy setting.

An extremely mediocre brunch. Pleasant enough rustic decor and friendly staff. However, poor selection of food for Dh140. A rather expensive extra Dh140 for the package of very standard drinks.
The previous week we had been to Ibn Battuta Gate for about the same price but with 10 times the selection. Ok, they have economies of scale which Thyme, with far fewer tables, will never achieve, but for the price I would expect something a bit more impressive. Perhaps knock Dh40 off both the food and drink packages and it would be more bearable.

The food was really bad, I couldnt eat most of it. I had the carvery, a tiny piece of meat, fried cauliflower,fried potatoes (not roast), fried egg plant, all swimming in grease and over cooked. My husband had the fish, he said it was tasteless and my son had the rbs which was the only thing that looked and tasted ok, but the he only got three ribs when they said a rack. It was very expensive we paid nearly £100 for the three of us, and that only included 2 beers and a coke, no desserts we didnt dare order any.

Thyme is definitely my favorite restaurant in Dubai!
It's a place to enjoy and feel home! The service personal is very friendly and helpful and the food is mouthwatering. Love the large variety of the salads, the carving station and the delicious deserts.
I can only recommend the Friday Brunch...
