Don Corleone on Map

I spend 1/2 my time in Dubai and am a regular at Don C. It's not Rome, Venice or even Little Italy in Manhattan but, for Dubai, some of the dishes are very good. Pizza is just OK - I grew up in Chicago and prefer deep-dish. The fish dishes, especially the Salmone al Burro, are grilled and steamed, some would say slightly over-cooked, but just the way I like it. Very flavorful and portion size is perfect. The tortolini gorgonzola is fantastic. Home-made, cooked al dente and the filling is not overwhelming. The home made tomato soup is also outstanding. Sure, the decor is a little tacky, but if you're used to the Italian restaurants in New Jersey or Chicago, it's just like home. Take the time to get to know the wait staff. Some of the nicest people I've ever met.

The best thing about this restaurant is the outdoor seating allowing you to be entertained by the comings and goings of the nearby pub clientele. However, you may end up wishing you'd gone to the pub instead. Although we enjoyed sitting outside and the service was fine, the fake grape vines overhead appeared a bit dusty and neglected. The pizza was mediocre with far too much cheese for my liking. The pasta was better and I'll have to go with that next time! Dessert was some kind of chocolaty/jello concoction. I would go back but will make my menu selections more carefully next time.
