Betawi Café

South East Asian

  • Betawi Café
This budget Indonesian eatery feels like it was born for that otherwise hackneyed cliché, the ‘hidden gem’. Based on a sleepy Karama back street, populated otherwise with a string of similarly overlooked eating out jewels from across the globe, Betawi Café is that unique, authentic, ethnic, characterful-but-safe walk on the culinary wild side you’ve been dying to find. Serving affordable, wholesome and delicious food that bursts with flavours and spices, a few bites of classics like gado gado, nasi padang or ketoprak and you’ll feel transported from said Karama sidestreet to a rainforest bamboo hut, accessed only by a dirt track. Actually you’ll be eating in a quaint and intimate room – just nine tables. This relaxed restaurant is basic but bright and clean, with nice touches like a magazine rack, and scented candles in the toilets. Sorry to fall into rapturous cliché – but this truly is a hidden gem. Betawi Café

Long time ago that I have eaten Indonesian food. Food was delicious. Never expect so good food for this a nice price. Easy to find and the staff was friendly.

The quality of food and the presentation was okay, and its just an experience for a person who is keen to have an indonesian cuisine or try a new place. Apart from that, the ambience is bad, the waitress hardly speaks English and you may find them busy having food at the next table ad busy chating with her friends in her language. Its definetly a wrong place to take some one out for a lunch or dinner. Lastly they do not have a proper bill to give you as well.

The restaurant is small and simple as is the menu but the food tastes great and the dishes are authentic as we went with an Indonesian friend who really enjoyed the meal. The portions are generous as we could not eat anymore once we had finished and very good value for money.
They also deliver so we will be ordering from there instead of our usual takeaway.
