The restaurant's best dish was the Mango Fish Curry and the Aappams. Loved the kababs and the spicy biryani. Affordable food at good quality

An abundance of poor reviews have shrouded the Appa Kadai of Karama. However, after a solid few pop ups about the Dubai Marina location, I thought it was a must try. I took my family, grandfather, aunt, mother and father and went for dinner. At 8pm, it was still empty but iftar was just setting in so didnt hold it against them. My first impression was great, the restaurant was clean and the staff had uniforms. I would even believe that they were HACCP certified seeing that they actually had hair knits on in the kitchen! (Thank you for learning the value of hygiene!)
Anyways we ended up ordering the vegetable curry combos and I ordered the Chicken Kadai. Both were absolutely fantastic. Our first happy response came after we had the complimentary Appalam which was not oily at all (a first!) and tasty. Then the food came out at an appropriate time from when the order was placed. What was great was that the Aapams did not come out at the same time because they were being made fresh. Not only that, but our server kept an astute eye on our consumption levels only to bring out a fresh Aapam once a person was almost about to finish theirs, perfect.
Then....dessert. Sorry to say, complete failure. The gulab jamun tasted rancid and the another dessert which I cannot even recall due to the extremely synthetic yellow color, was horrid.
Nonetheless, washing it all down with the tasty fresh lime soda (something i had been craving from the streets of india) was lovely.
Overall, I am definitely coming back for the food (main course at least), perhaps even attempt the delivery - - heck for Dhs 180 for 5 people, I am coming back more than once!

Good service and very reasonably priced. Meal for two, more than you can eat for AED 70. No complaints. Excellent food

This restaraunt is a no frills, simple indian eatery, and the food is very nice indeed. its also very cheap - around 25aed will get you a full meal. I tried a roast chicken tandoori piece with sauce/yougart and a drink.
The flavours were nice and i was pleasantly surprised. Its not the sort of place you would go for a romantic meal for 2, but if you fancy a quick bite, cheap and chearful, this place is worth a visit. Seating inside was for around 10/15 people max. Lots of Asians go there- so that usually sums up a good place!
Its located just before the Dubai Marina Mall on the main road. Park carefully outside as theres no parking inside the gate - residents only!

We live in Al barsha and we had ordered for a take away from the marina branch. Our order was only 5 appams and 5 parathas. They told us it would take only 10 minutes but as expected they took about 20 mins to get it ready and we waited after we reached there. When reached back home we realized that they had forgotten 2 appams. I dont understand this- on a weekday when they are not even busy they cant even check before handng over to the customer. and to top it all, the parathas were stale, i guess they were made much earlier, not fresh at all. When i called the restaurant to tell them about the appams, they said they cannot deliver and we can collect the appams next time we visit them. They have hopes that we would ever go there, not that they care anyway....
