In many ways, Dubai’s hot, slow summer is the most exciting time for seasonal produce. June, July and August herald harvest season in Europe and the States, meaning fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, figs and more are coming into season. Many top hotels and restaurants in Dubai have developed reliable and quality suppliers, ensuring that as soon as the summer fruits flourish, they are plucked from their stems, packaged and swiftly transported to Dubai. The produce often arrives in a matter of hours, ensuring the fruit is nearly as fresh and delicious as the moment it was picked. Of course, there’s more to summer fruits than straightforward fruit salad, and this month the city’s top chefs are preparing innovative and imaginative fruit dishes for you to enjoy while you can.
Strawberry and rhubarb afternoon tea
Afternoon tea and strawberries – this British combination is served at The Address Dubai Marina between 3pm and 6pm, and includes fruity favourites such as strawberry pâté de fruit, strawberry panna cotta, savoury balsamic strawberry tarts, strawberry and cream cheese sandwiches, and roasted strawberry sandwiches. A fruit fest if ever there was one.

Stone fruit salad
French and Italian venue Margaux is fast turning heads with its small yet quality menu. Combat the oppressive heat outside with a fresh salad comprising marinated plums, peaches and nectarines, served with lemon sorbet and toasted almond milk.

Strawberries with citrus baba and clotted cream
Verre’s Scott Price and Nick Alves have always been on top of seasonal food trends, so it’s no surprise that this June they’re serving several fruit dishes. Try this delectable parfait, served with marinated strawberries, reduced strawberry purée and diced basil, served with citrus baba and Devonshire clotted cream.

Seafood pakora with fruit chutney
A seafood pakora isn’t the first dish that springs to mind when it comes to summer fruits, but the ever-inventive team at Zafran have complemented this delicious starter dish – a battered seafood fritter – with the restaurant’s signature fig and blackberry chutney.

Coulis de fruit rouge, glace et chouquettes
This inventive (not to mention delicious) take on seasonal fruits features the froth of blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, served with a sublime frozen yoghurt atop a vanilla doughnut.

Catalan cream with mixed berries
Also known as ‘crema Catalana frutti di bosco gelato alla vaniglia’, this dish features caramelised Catalan cream foam served on a fresh-berry mix (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries), offset with cool vanilla ice-cream.

Though Café Chic has repositioned itself as an ‘international’ restaurant, elements of French culinary artistry remain in dishes such as this fig tart, which is served ‘tatin style’, featuring fresh raspberries married wonderfully with mascarpone ice cream and pine nut praline.

This typical British dish – a combination of fresh strawberries, cream and chunks of meringue – was traditionally served at cricket games between British private schools Eton College and Winchester College. It is now dished up with aplomb at Rivington Grill, which ensures the delicious components are realised wonderfully here in Dubai.

Afternoon tea at Al Bayt
Al Bayt serves fresh strawberry juice with its afternoon tea, alongside a selection of finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones. The spread also includes fruit jams, clotted cream, preserves, pastries and strawberry cheesecake.

Red berry special
Another nice take on traditional summer fruits at M’s – red berries feature in a tart and tantalising chilled gazpacho, which is served with mascarpone ice cream.
