Two fashion-inspired eateries set to open at Dubai Mall
This week is shaping up to be rather fashion- and design-led. First up is news that new footwear concept store Level in The Dubai Mall will host not one, but two fashion-inspired eateries. The two venues will both be called Vogue Café: the larger outlet will offer a café-bistro menu of international classics with a gourmet twist, and the open-plan setup is intended to make it an ideal spot for people-watching. The smaller coffee-lounge venue will serve simple pastries and cakes, tucked away near the men’s fashion section. We hate to make gender stereotypes, but it sounds to us as though this mini Vogue Café has been designed to occupy bored male shoppers while their partners browse in peace.
Yet dapper Dubai men needn’t feel left out – the company behind the Vogue Cafés plans to open a GQ Bar in Dubai as well. For now, the location and opening date are unconfirmed, but the venue is likely to open in mid-2013. We’re told it will offer the sophisticated atmosphere of a high-end gentlemen’s club.
Yet another café scheduled to open at the end of the year is Pantry Café on Wasl Square, the new development on the corner of Jumeirah’s Safa Park. Promising an upscale café vibe, the vast venue – with space for 150 guests in its indoor and outdoor areas – says it will offer an international selection of freshly prepared gourmet dishes, with an emphasis on quality and organic ingredients. Dishes on offer will include custom-made pizzas, artisan breads and a holistic children’s menu. There will also be a delicatessen, where customers can buy items such as cured meats, oils and cheese to take home.
If you fancy something new but don’t want to wait until the end of the year, Rivington Grill, at Souk Madinat Jumeirah has launched a new outdoor barbecue event on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant will serve classic British barbecue favourites such as its signature burger and Black Angus sirloin steaks – we think it’ll make a nice winter alternative to a brunch.
For another culturally specific barbecue, Rosso at the Amwaj Rotana is also hosting a new promotion, this time focusing on Italian grilled specialities and taking place on Sunday evenings. And for yet more Italian-themed fun, head to BiCE Mare in Souk Al Bahar, which introduces its new ‘voyage through Sicily’ promotion in November. It will offer a menu of Sicilian specialities using classic ingredients from the region, ranging from seafood and fish to cheeses and mushrooms. Dishes will include yellow-fin tuna carpaccio and home-made ravioli with aubergine and ricotta cheese.
