Ocean View Hotel to bring new dining options to Dubai diners
Just in time for the new year, a new hotel has landed on The Walk at JBR. The launch of Ocean View Hotel means more eating haunts to keep us busy during January: while most of the six dining outlets are yet to launch, Girders, a Scottish-tinged British pub, is already open for business. Among the menu of British pub classics, you’ll find fish and chips, haggis and a full ‘Scottish’ breakfast (as opposed to the usual English variety), which also involves a deep-fried Mars bar. It probably conflicts with your new year’s resolutions, but if you want to get the full Scottish deep-fried experience, you may as well tuck in.
Not yet open, but also scheduled to launch at the hotel are Le Rivage, an all-day-dining buffet restaurant, and Caffè Via, an Italian-inspired casual eatery where you can munch pizza by the slice while sitting at the street-side tables on The Walk. There’s also a casual eatery located by the pool, called The Deck, plus a cheese and grape joint called The Whistler, boasting views out to the sea and the Palm Jumeirah. Finally, and of most excitement to us, is the opening of Fogo Vivo, a Brazilian churrascaria. There is also a hops garden due to open in January, but we’re never as thirsty as we are hungry.
Making the most of the winter weather while it lasts, two venues are unveiling new terraces in the next month. Posh steakhouse Gaucho plans to unveil its al-fresco area in January, while Plaj at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray will open a new-look terrace in March, with the aim of hosting regular barbecue events. Also new at the hotel will be a second outlet of popular Emirates Towers steakhouse The Rib Room, although opening dates are unconfirmed, as well as a revamp of Imperium’s brunch menu, offering a more international selection, including barbecue on the terrace.
On the brunch and barbecue front, the Grand Millennium in TECOM will host its first al-fresco outdoor barbecue brunch in January. Held at Exit 36, it will serve Mediterranean dishes, salads, pasta and desserts.
Finally, also in January, Thai venue Sukhothai will launch a special promotion themed on the number 13, in honour of the new year. Guests will receive a Dhs13 discount on all main dishes. It may be unlucky for some, but ’13 is already looking like a promising year for Dubai foodies.
