Plus a Superfood Workshop and a quick look ahead to Valentine's Day
This week sees the opening of yet another new burger bar, the first Dubai branch of Elevation Burger, America’s first organic burger chain, at Latifa Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road. Naughty as burgers may be, this venture offers a healthy twist, serving patties made with 100 percent organic and grass-fed beef, as well as fries cooked in olive oil. The venue is offering free tastings this week on Wednesday January 16 and Sunday 20, but readers need to pre-register through the Facebook page.
Bo House Café is holding a Be Supernatural Superfood Workshop on Friday January 25. Hosted by Hayley Mac, CEO of raw and vegan food supplier Be Super Natural, the workshop will offer healthy-eating tips and reveal the benefits of raw and vegan diets. There are only 20 places available, so if you’re interested in changing your culinary ways in 2013, we advise booking in advance.
Not naughty enough? January also continues to be flooded with gourmet grape events. Asado has introduced a ‘Beverage Appreciation Club’, which offers ongoing tastings of four grape varieties (with an emphasis on Argentinian grape, naturally), plus cheese and canapé platters. This week, Armani/Ristorante is also offering a tasting dinner, introducing biodynamically grown grape – something of a buzzword in other parts of the globe. Next week, Pachanga follows suit with a grape dinner on Monday January 28. This is the first event of its kind for the restaurant and will focus on Chilean grape, served with eight tasting dishes of Latin American favourites, including empanadas, salmon and prawn ceviche, and marinated Angus sirloin.
Graped out? Let’s start with a quick look ahead at February, with a taster of Valentine’s specials. Jumeirah Zabeel Saray is offering a romantic package for beachside private dining, including a private gazebo, pink bubbly, a five-course set menu and chauffeur, plus a bouquet of roses and gift hamper for ladies – for Dhs3,900 per couple. Elsewhere, a romantic Cupid’s afternoon tea is planned at the new Fairmont The Palm; while The Westin will be holding a lobster night at Blue Orange, and a cosy fondue evening in Oeno. Vu’s, Thiptara, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and Azure Lounge will also offer special set menus – look out for plenty more Valentine’s deals in future issues. Until next week, bon appétit!

I tried the Elevation Burger today and cheese fries. Yum! While the fries were a bit oily the cheese is amazing never tasted anything like it, and the burger was delicious! I did not feel bloated or stuffed as I do with other burgers. Their burgers are organic by the way. Bit pricey, but well worth it. Place was packed in the evening when I went in and there was a long queue but my order did not take more than 10 minutes so I was impressed given the crowd that was there. There were ample waiters so you always have someone nearby in case you need ketchup or whatever. There is also seating available outside which is nice to have a meal in the cool weather. Definitely will recommend to anyone to try them out.
