New celebrity chef menus and a hot dog eating contest in Dubai
We’re kicking off the week with a challenge. Celebrating the end of summer, in very American-style, CLAW BBQ is hosting a ‘homecoming’ themed party and hotdog eating contest. Contestants will compete to see who can consume the most hotdogs in the space of ten minutes. If you’re interested in proving your speed-eating prowess, then participants need to register by Monday September 15, and the event will take place at the Souk Al Bahar crab shack on Wednesday September 17. CLAW BBQ promises an evening of live music and beverage promotions, plus a ‘homecoming king and queen’ title up for grabs.
We’re also celebrating the beginning of the new season, since it brings with it plenty of new menus to try. At British celebrity chef Gary Rhodes’ Dubai steakhouse Rhodes Twenty10 the new menu focuses on sharing plates. New signatures to try include beetroot and goats cheese towers, with pink grapefruit, pine nuts and blackberry dressing or duck quiche with orange, fig and maple dressed salad. Newly added main courses include braised beef short rib with spinach and macaroni cheese or Arabic-style fried pistachio king prawns with tomatoes, chilli, ginger and pak choi. Finally, for dessert, there’s iced pecan parfait with poached pear, pear jelly and caramel sauce, and passionfruit cheesecake teamed with orange salad and mango sorbet.
On to more British celebrity chef news, with a look at the new dishes at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant Wheeler’s in DIFC. New additions to sample on the menu have a British twist to them and include ballantine of foie gras with ginger breadcrumbs and quince; Cornish crab salad with green beans and potato, or rump of salt marsh lamb served with potato dauphinoise.
Over at Northern Italian cuisine specialists Nais Italian Kitchen in JLT, there are plenty of seasonal additions to try. These include Ligurian farinata (chickpea-based flatbread), gnocchi with beef and eggplant ragout, wagyu beefburgers with red Piedmontese bagnetto sauce, Mamma Náis’ chocolate sponge cake served with fresh gelato and there are also organic juices available.
There’s yet more dining news over in Jumeirah, where you’ll find new Dubai-born eatery Provodore. Billing itself as an artisanal deli, café, gourmet food store and cooking school all rolled into one, you’ll find this multi-concept venue inside Sunset Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road. The menu in the restaurant offers an internationally inspired selection of recipes. The market area of Provedore stocks imported items such as sauces, spices and seasonings from around the world as well as a cheese counter. There is also an instore bakery, which prepares daily batches of bread and pastries by hand.
