Chinese New Year 2015, top coffee breaks and a new French steak joint in Dubai
Time Out Dubai staff
A world tour of new dining, from French meat, through to Chinese New Year – with a few top coffee breaks in between.
This year is getting into its stride, with plenty of new dining venues having arrived or coming very soon.
All-new in JLT is Hattab Kitchen. This casual dining concept prides itself on offering ‘premium fast food’, meaning fresh, healthy food that is made from scratch in-house. That includes the bread, which is baked on the premises, offering a choice of either white or wholewheat. You’ll find Hattab Kitchen at Dubai Gate 1 in Cluster Q, JLT.
French steak and chips concept Le Relais de l’Entrecôte has just opened on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai. The original opened in Paris way back in 1959, and since then has become famous for serving only the same walnut salad as a starter, followed by steak with chips and a ‘secret sauce’.
Vegetarians who feel left out by this meaty news may be pleased to know that there is also a new branch of 1762 café, just opened in Dubai Media City. It is located in Omnicom Media Group Building 8.
Coming next month, is the brand-new venue by Tom and Serg of Tom&Serg fame. The Sum of Us is to open in February at the Burj Al Salam Building near the World Trade Centre roundabout. So far, the promise is an eatery where everything is made from scratch, which extends to roasting their own coffee beans and baking their own bread. The venue will be divided into three distinct areas, a sourdough bakery, a gourmet café and a coffee roastery.
Also due to open in February is Heinz Beck’s first casual dining concept Taste of Italy. This will open in Galleria Mall.
If you have a special interest in coffee (however, amateur and/or enthusiast), the next edition of coffee tasting meet-up group Sabado is due to take place next month. Currently planned for Saturday February 14, it will be held at the Dubai Coffee Museum in Al Fahidi.
February also features a series of celebrations for Chinese New Year, which takes place on Thursday February 19. In honour of the Year of the Goat, Sanabel Restaurant at Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates will be serving a Chinese-themed buffet on Thursday February 19 for Dhs195. Al Forsan at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa will hold a buffet on the same evening, priced from Dhs290. For something more affordable, head to Sizzling Wok at Citymax Hotel Bur Dubai. From February 19-20, this venue will serve an Asian buffet for Dhs79 per person. It features items such as crispy duck, soya-ginger fish, and dim sum hot pot (yes, you read that correctly). Guests will even receive a New Year-themed gift.
