From Michelin star imports to new burger joint the Americans are taking over
Time Out Dubai staff
This week, the Americans are taking over, from Michelin-starred imports to rumours of a new burger brand.
It’s all news of the Americans in Dubai this week. Firstly, there is, of course, New York’s Michelin-starred Indian concept Junoon, which is now open at the Shangri-La Dubai Hotel. The next American import on the menu comes all the way from Los Angeles. West Hollywood favourite Delphine Restaurant & Bar, launches imminently at The H Dubai. Home to Hollywood’s A-list elite, in Dubai, Delphine will aim to reflect Californian dining culture, in both its menu and the extensive selection of Californian grape varieties served. The venue will also serve a Friday brunch, which will feature a buffet selection, plus Delphine signatures that can be ordered straight to the table. Entertainment will come from a jazz and swing band, playing live during the Friday event.
Back to New York now, or rather the JA Ocean View Hotel on JBR. Here, you’ll find TR!BECA Kitchen & Bar, which has just opened. The brand-new venture takes its name and inspiration from the famous New York neighbourhood and there’s quite an urban feel to this bar and dining concept. The menu, developed by chef Giovanni De Ambrosis, is described as a mixture of Mediterranean flavour and modern American cooking. Uniquely though, this 300-capacity venue (with space for indoor and outdoor dining) promises a focus on healthy and organic eating, but in a licensed environment. This commitment to organic dining will extend to the beverage list, which features organic grape, and also to the retail section of the venue, where you’ll find organic items on sale, including cooking oils, chocolate truffles, nuts, dates, aged vinegars and more. In the style of trendy New York neighbourhood bars, TR!BECA will also be turning itself in to a platform for local artists by showcasing home-grown talent through a regular programme of exhibitions and performances.
In other news, since Dubai seems to be in a constant state of flutter over either new burger joints, or someone, somehow connected to the Kardashians, hold on to your hats. Jonathan Cheban, best-known for being Kim Kardashian’s ‘best friend’, has announced plans to launch a new burger concept called Burger Bandit. The first outlet will be located in Long Island, New York, however, there are already plans to turn this into a global franchise, with Dubai in particular earmarked as a future location for as many as seven branches. Plans for the menu include vegetarian patties and gluten-free buns.
More diet-friendly options are set to hit Dubai with the launch of Tidjoori Restaurant in Dubai Marina. Intended to open this week (at the time of writing), the new organic and vegan concept will serve dishes such as tofu omelettes, oatmeal pancakes and more.
